Description
With her new, now fifth ECM album "Watersongs," Greek exceptional singer Savina Yannatou takes the stage at the Enjoy Jazz Festival. Masterfully blending folk traditions with shimmering jazz improvisations, the Athens-born Yannatou translates them into her own sound language. Soft melodies, nostalgic and melancholic like a blues. Her current album revolves around water – as a life-giving source, as a medium of baptism and spiritual rebirth, and as a threat during storms. Shakespeare's drama "The Tempest" – especially the spirit Ariel's song, "Full Fathom Five" – inspired this project about the power of the sea to create astonishing metamorphoses, based on a melody by British composer and lutenist Robert Johnson from the 17th century.
