Saša Stanišić is not only a gifted storyteller, as we know from his books, but also a great speaker. His new book is subtitled "An Encouragement." It gathers speeches, both delivered and undelivered. All of them deal with what we can do in the face of societal upheavals, poverty, and war. And as always with Stanišić, the texts are not only intelligent, precisely observed, and clever, but also entertaining and sometimes wonderfully intricate. His works have been translated into more than forty languages, adapted for the theater many times, and awarded numerous times, including the German Book Prize. Saša Stanišić lives and works in Hamburg. He is a football coach for a youth team. Katrin Eckert has been the director of the Basel Literature House since 2008 and the managing director of the LiteratureBasel association since 2012. From 2010 to 2021, she also led the International Literature Festival BuchBasel (since 2020 as co-director together with Marion Regenscheit). She studied German studies, history, and literary criticism in Zurich and Berlin. She has worked as a program director and managing director at Pendo Verlag, and previously for literary agencies in London as well as in editing and PR for various publishers.
