Description

Longing without fulfillment. Out of love for a human, a mermaid transforms into a mute land creature and becomes bitterly disappointed. But she cannot return to her old body. From Andersen to Disney, the adaptations of this story are numerous. Its operatic version by composer Antonín Dvořák incorporates elements of Slavic mythology and music with shimmering, inexhaustible sound colors. Director Caterina Cianfarini examines the incompatibility of two worlds, which threatens to destabilize Rusalka with her desire to leave her own body. The title role is performed by exceptional soprano Heather Engebretson, recently celebrated in Basel as Lady Macbeth. Participants and additional information:
