Robert Balzar Trio Leading Czech double bassist Robert Balzar is one of the prominent figures in the domestic jazz scene. His artistic range is very broad; for many years he collaborated with the leading Czech chanson singer Hana Hegerová, also performing with Dan Bárta, and was a member of the legendary band J. A. R. Recently, he prepared an amazing project with Jana Kirschner together with his trio. However, Robert Balzar is primarily a jazz musician, so it is worth mentioning the jazz legends he has had the opportunity to collaborate with, such as John Abercrombie, Kurt Elling, and Raul Midon. His work is characterized by an original approach and a constant search for new possibilities. Among his many projects, the exceptional DVD One Day, filmed in co-production with Czech Television in a forest near Polička, deserves mention. It is a unique recording of a full-day and night live production. Balzar's trio has long been shaping its distinctive contemporary sound, which is the result of the synergy and experience of three remarkable musicians. Most of the repertoire consists of original compositions or unique arrangements of jazz and non-jazz standards. They recorded two albums, Discover Who We Are and Vuja De, in the legendary New York Sear Sound Studio with the support of renowned sound engineer James Farber. The trio's latest project is the album Conversation, an exclusively original recording made in Poland's Cavatina Hall (Bielsko-Biała) in collaboration with acclaimed sound engineer Tadeusz Mieczkowski. The album was also released on LP.
