Every autumn, thousands of birds set off on their journey south. But how do they know when it's time to leave? How do they find their way over mountains, valleys, and seas? How do they fly? And which species actually migrate over our heads?

Gurnigel is an internationally known place for observing the autumn bird migration. On a good migration day, countless birds of prey and songbirds cross the mountain pass here individually or in small and large flocks on their way south. The Gantrisch Nature Park is known as a concentration point for bird migration, and Gurnigel is an "Important Bird Area."

In a playful way, our bird experts guide you through the world of migratory birds. The focus is also on observing the migratory birds on site. Our nature park educators show how to use binoculars correctly, what to pay attention to when observing, and how to identify different species.

The offer takes place directly at the stand – we stay nearby and make short joint discovery rounds. This way, families with children can also join spontaneously. Asking questions, trying things out, marveling, and learning new things are expressly encouraged.

General Information

The excursion takes place at the Förderverein Region Gantrisch in Rüti near Riggisberg. Experts introduce participants to the world of migratory birds and show how to recognize them on site. The event is aimed at all interested parties, including families with children.
