Description

Tessa Ensler is a tough criminal defense attorney. She has achieved what few would have expected: the path from a background without privileges to an elite university and then to a top law firm. Her specialty is defending cases of sexual assault. Is her acquittal rate so high because she is a woman, as malicious tongues suggest? Or is it because she is so adept at uncovering gaps and contradictions in the statements of female victims? However, her beliefs are shaken when she herself is raped. When she files a report, she realizes that the apparent or prima facie evidence does not speak in her favor – but it is not just about personal justice for her; it is also about reckoning with a justice system created by men that she has believed in her entire life. The Australian author Suzie Miller worked for many years as a criminal defense attorney – specifically in the human rights sector. Her play PRIMA FACIE was awarded the Olivier Award, the highest honor in British theater, in 2020. Anna Grisebach intensely embodies the character of Tessa in this furious monodrama, telling her life story piece by piece and playing all the characters that appear.
