In a quaint small town in Switzerland, something astonishing happens: Almost immediately after its founding, Sabin and Schanti, with their association “Polifon Pervers” and a new vision of “Onderhaltig,” shake up the cultural scene. Acting daringly and cleverly, they rise as theater producers to national prominence and gather an illustrious circle around them. Over the course of history, the association for “Onderhaltig” arranges everything under the success, and soon all kinds of fraud follow the initial irregularities.
Béla Rothenbühler continues the tradition of the picaresque novel in his second novel — this time with imposters and in Lucerne German. His ironically satirical thought experiment about culture, entertainment, and money is itself a great art of entertainment. Polifon Pervers was published by Der gesunde Menschenversand, made the shortlist for the Swiss Book Prize 2024, and won a Swiss Literature Prize in 2025. Together with actor and rapper Stefan Schönholzer aka Rotchopf, Rothenbühler now brings the novel to the stage — as a literature-rap-performance with live music.
