As one of the main themes of our exhibition "Sports and Leisure," Christine Gallmetzer's "Divers" is also one of the most admired works. With this and other motifs, the artist is represented in the Würth collection. Her powerful divers are a trademark of her art: figures whirl through the air in strict posture, but the origin and destination must be inferred and imagined by oneself, which is not difficult thanks to the characteristic clothing. And yet, there remain mysteries. Something vague dominates. The outcome of the seconds-long flight, the dive into the water, remains hidden from us. Why? Another important motif in Gallmetzer's work is the gondola; it also functions as a metaphor for transience. Isn't the entire human life a sequence of uncertain passing moments? Goethe's Faust looked skeptically at the thought "stay a while, you are so beautiful." In Christine Gallmetzer's images, the fixed momentary impressions become symbols of uncertain changeability. In conversation with art historian and former director Prof. Dr. Bernhard Maaz, the artist provides insights into her visual worlds. The exhibitions at Forum Würth Rorschach and the KunstCafé remain open until 6:00 PM.
