Description

A young American woman, Monsieur Hulot, and lost tourists cross paths in a world dulled by automated gadgets, amidst concrete, neon, plastic, and glass panels... The ridicule of blind conformity is subtly denounced, the image speaks, and laughter is free to roam. A work of prodigious inventive richness and observations, where nothing is narratable and everything is to be watched. "What surprises is that Hulot is not the main character, more often an observer than the cause of the gags. The film contains a certain critique of consumer society and inhumane modern architecture, but it mainly describes with genius the upheaval that life causes in a universe governed by an abstract logic" (Joël Magny, Dictionnaire mondial des films).
