Dare more conservatism! Conservatism has a poor reputation. Since its inception, it has been considered anti-progress, skeptical of democracy, male – and white. But according to Swiss publicist Roger de Weck, author of the book "Glanz und Elend der Konservativen" (Suhrkamp), no one is currently better equipped than conservatives themselves to defend our fundamental order effectively and to reshape it wisely. People with common sense and life experience, who stand for preserving the tried and true, away from right or left populism, and face new challenges openly and pragmatically. Where do the origins of conservatism lie? What is its current misery? And on what value basis could it be effectively renewed? Roger de Weck, former editor-in-chief of ZEIT and general director of Swiss Radio and Television, offers a philosophical outlook into a future that consciously reflects on what holds the political center together at its core.
