Swiss premiere The Greeks before the walls of Troy: The war has become a paralyzing trench warfare as the Amazon people appear before the military camp. The Amazons are proud warriors – at their head: Queen Penthesilea searching for the once-glorious hero Achilles. She, who is not allowed to, loves him. And he, who cannot say it, loves her. Both are tired of killing. But the war is bigger than any heroine and any hero. And so an relentless game of love and death unfolds. The Georgian author Nino Haratischwili tells the Penthesilea story as a current story about war and gender struggle. She offers a reinterpretation of the ancient myth. "Penthesilea. A Requiem" is part of Haratischwili's theater trilogy about strong female figures from Greek mythology. The pull of her great prose works, such as "The Eighth Life (For Brilka)", also develops in this intense theater duel between Penthesilea and Achilles. Director Sophia Bodamer stages it for the first time at TOBS!.

General Information

The production of "Penthesilea. A Requiem" takes place at the Biel City Theatre and addresses the conflict between war and love. Director Sophia Bodamer brings the story of the Amazons and their queen to the stage, reinterpreting the ancient myth.
