L'Étiquette Bleue was born in 2022, after Benoit Chattaway settled in Bidogno, Ticino, where he was invited to confront the work of Domenico Quirici, an amateur photographer who captured a profound social transformation in the 1890s. Based on this archive, Chattaway does not limit himself to a historical reinterpretation but develops a reflection on the social, technological, and perceptual implications of images. The work questions how media infrastructures influence visual experience, interpersonal relationships, and the construction of the gaze, tracing a continuity between the visual forms of the past and contemporary image culture.
