Between sun-drenched lightness and the small unrests beneath the surface, Pearl & The Oysters have been moving in their own unique sound world for years. The French duo Juliette Pearl Davis (Juju) and Joachim Polack (Jojo), now based in Los Angeles, combine shimmering lounge pop with influences from 70s piano rock, Brazilian grooves, city pop, and psychedelic textures – playful, warm, and at the same time surprisingly multi-layered. With their new album Monkey Mind, Pearl & The Oysters deliver their most immediate work to date. Created in a time of personal uncertainty, societal overload, and the defining moments of a changing Los Angeles, the album revolves around the Buddhist idea of the restless mind: thoughts that jump, circle, and rarely stay still. Produced by Jonathan Rado (Weyes Blood, The Lemon Twigs, Father John Misty), the record was intentionally spontaneous and direct – live on tape, without excessive perfection, but full of energy, intimacy, and intuition. The result: an album full of poolside bops, shimmering melodies, and songs that find comfort and connection again and again between melancholy and euphoria.
