«Parametastrings»

Description

As part of the Artist-in-Residence format «Sonic Boom», eight artists and ensembles of contemporary and experimental music have the opportunity to realize their own concert formats, sound performances, and music theater. Over a period of two years, they will design and present two evenings each, in which they can express their individual artistic approaches. Accompanied by an in-house discourse format and mentoring program, the series provides space for exchange between audience, scene, and artists.
For this «Sonic Boom» evening, the Percaso String Quartet and Carmel Curiel work with a system of sound, gravity, and movement. Four bows hanging from the ceiling are connected to the string instruments and the bodies of the musicians. The bows are attached in different ways: some are controlled directly by the players, others are part of a system of mutual dependencies, in which the movement of one instrument triggers the movement of another. This creates a sensitive network that can only exist through precise interplay.
Between control and surrender, independence and dependence, a constant interplay unfolds. In dialogue with Unsuk Chins «ParaMetaString», the collaborative project connects sound, gravity, and movement, making the close interconnection of performers, instruments, and musical material visible.
