QUEER MEMORY WORK AS RESISTANCE PANEL

Description

Warm and cold drinks as well as small snacks are available – and we continue the discussion! Together, we want to discuss: What strategies have queer and marginalized communities developed in the past to stay visible and resist? How can we organize ourselves in the future – across generations, scenes, and places? And what role do films, festivals, and cultural productions play as means of remembrance and empowerment? Moderator Doro Halbrock has co-founded, among other things, 'Hallo: e. V.' in Hamburg. Doro's main interest lies in creating supportive, self-organized structures, queer networks, and enabling spaces. They enjoy building networks both locally and internationally. Suy Lan Hopman examines memory work in the context of postcolonialism and explores how colonial continuities and histories of queer persecution can be considered together. Panelists Janni Jungblut is a filmmaker, writer, and documentary scholar interested in archives and history, displacement and migration, and languages. The documentary REFUGE is Janni's debut film. Janni shares insights into how we, as queer people, can pass on historical learning processes. Zaniah Revlon brings queer knowledge from community spaces – focusing on the ballroom scene in Hamburg and the practice of preserving and reinventing memory in self-organized spaces. She co-founded the ballroom space Meow Mondayz in Hamburg. Jona Diwiak works as a guide at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial and is particularly interested in how life stories and accounts of persecution can be considered intersectionally and communicated in all their diversity. The panel invites you to contribute your own questions and develop concrete ideas for queer remembrance practices. Come along if you want to learn how remembrance can become an act of resistance – and how we can unite our struggles to shape our future together. The panel will be conducted in spoken German and interpreted into German Sign Language.
