Palestinian-Israeli workshop and evening at Kulturpunkt. Laila Hassan is coming to Switzerland in November to raise awareness about the situation in Palestine and to sell handmade embroidery by women from her region – an opportunity for authentic insights into the West Bank and the resistance of the people there. As an experienced cook and embroiderer, she brings us closer to Palestinian culture and her personal life through an embroidery workshop. For Laila, embroidery is more than a craft: it stands for community, the empowerment of women, and Sumud, the resilience of the Palestinians. She has been embroidering since she was seven years old, taught in Jerusalem from 1994 until the wall blocked her way there in 2005. In 2008, she joined the cooperative "Women in Hebron" founded by her sister Nawal and opened a shop – her "university" – which she had to close in 2024 due to the occupation. From there, she traveled to Italy, Great Britain, the USA, and Switzerland. Today, Laila lives in the Palestinian city of Deir Samet with her husband, six children, and 25 grandchildren. Maayan Baram
was born in Israel in 1998 and completed music education at Tel Aviv University. Since 2023, she has been studying choral conducting at the Zurich University of the Arts with Prof. Markus Utz. In parallel, Maayan Baram has been working as a conductor for numerous ensembles since 2018, including the Bertini Choir, the Meilen Vocal Ensemble, and the Seefeld Chamber Choir Zurich. She led the children's choir Tzlil at the Kfar-Blum Music Center, taught harmony in Haifa, and worked as an assistant conductor with the Madrigal Singers. Since 2023, she has been leading the choir "Abelimento" as well as the Zurich Google Choir, and since 2025 the artistic direction of the festival "Ani Kol" for Hebrew contemporary vocal music. In 2026, she will also be responsible for the project "Wind of Change" in Switzerland with the choir "Jerusalem Knights" and the Sonora Ensemble. At the sewing meeting at Kulturpunkt, Laila Hassan will be together with Mirjam Krebs
