Description
Mythological themes were extremely popular among Baroque composers. Handel was no exception and even the most brutal stories were set to enchanting music. This is also true in "Oreste": The title hero seeks to avenge his father's murder and kills his mother. From then on, he is tormented by feelings of guilt and inner turmoil, flees to the island of Tauri, and unexpectedly meets his presumed-dead sister there. However, she is forced to kill all foreigners in the service of the local ruler... For this opera created in 1734, Handel used the popular "Pasticcio" form, reassembling selected arias from earlier operas. In a condensed version, composer and sound designer Albrecht Ziepert expands the baroque work with modern elements, thus revealing the contemporary theme of the piece.
