Description

Philippe Herreweghe, conductor Serafina Starke, soprano
Sophie Harmsen, mezzo-soprano
Ilker Arcayürek, tenor
Benjamin Hulett, tenor
Johannes Kammler, baritone Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, op. 60
Franz Schubert: Mass No. 6 in E-flat major, D 950 For over five decades, Philippe Herreweghe has shaped the European music scene: in 1970, he initiated the Collegium Vocale Gent and developed it into one of Europe's leading professional choirs. The ensemble was one of the first to consistently implement insights from historical performance practice and worked early on with conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Gustav Leonhardt. To this day, Herreweghe leads it. The conductor, born in Ghent in 1947, also founded the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées in 1991. The orchestra performs with historical instruments and focuses on the repertoire from Haydn to Mahler. International residencies and invitations to significant concert halls attest to its stature.
Now, this grandly recorded team encounters two works that demand stylistic precision and a close interplay between choir and orchestra: Ludwig van Beethoven's Fourth Symphony and Franz Schubert's Mass No. 6 in E-flat major. The latter is particularly known for its challenging choral movements. Herreweghe and his ensembles will master them brilliantly. Tickets: 86 / 74 / 60 / 44 €
