Description

Switzerland is considered the water tower of Europe and is one of the countries with the highest share of renewable energy in electricity production. About two-thirds of Swiss electricity comes from hydropower. Electricity from hydropower is practically CO2-free, domestic, and renewable.

Equipped with two pipe turbines, the Ruppoldingen power plant delivers a maximum of 21 MW and generates around 115 GWh per year. The runner wheels have a diameter of an impressive 5.9 meters, making them some of the largest in Switzerland. With the new building constructed in 2000, 300 measures were implemented to protect the environment, as well as to restore and create new natural and landscape values along the Aare.
