Description

Nils Petter Molvær is one of the influential representatives of electroacoustic jazz and is considered a pioneer of «Future Jazz» and «Nu Jazz». His musical role models include Miles Davis, Don Cherry, Billie Holiday, Brian Eno, Jon Hassell, Joni Mitchell, and Bill Laswell. Since the 1990s, the Norwegian trumpeter, composer, and producer has been blending melancholic trumpet sounds with electronic soundscapes, continually pushing the boundaries of jazz. Together with Jo Berger Myhre on bass and Erland Dahlen on drums, the trio takes the audience on an exploratory journey that is not afraid to think of jazz in new and exciting ways, without forgetting the roots of their own work. If jazz has so far been considered only for intellectual pretenses, the Tingvall Trio will prove otherwise. With catchy melodies and exuberant improvisations, the Swedish pianist, composer, and namesake Martin Tingvall, drummer Jürgen Spiegel, and bassist Omar Rodriguez Calvo not only excite the scene audience but also fans of popular music appreciate the band's work. There are many piano trios worldwide; the classical basic formation of jazz has experienced a spectacular revival in recent years. However, when searching for the essence of all currently touring trios of this movement, the Tingvall Trio from Hamburg stands out from an international perspective in terms of audience acceptance and their unmistakable, independent sound. With concerts in more than 30 countries, several awards including the ECHO JAZZ for “Ensemble” and “Live Act” of the year, jazz awards in gold for each of their studio albums, number 1 on the jazz charts, and even high placements in the pop charts, the trio's popularity has reached the level of current pop bands. The trio has been playing for two decades with the same lineup: Martin Tingvall (piano), Omar Rodriguez Calvo (double bass), and Jürgen Spiegel (drums), celebrating their 20th stage anniversary in 2023 with BIRDS, another #1 on the German jazz charts (July 2023). In August 2025, album #10: PAX was released.
