Nistkastenreinigung – Verein NUR Rümlang Once a year, the Verein NUR takes care of cleaning and inspecting the nesting boxes in Rümlang. The goal is to provide the birds with clean and suitable breeding sites for the next breeding season. During this operation, the nesting boxes are opened, old nests and dirt are removed, and the condition of the boxes is checked. It is also examined whether repairs are necessary or if individual boxes need to be replaced. A particularly interesting aspect is the look into the old nests: often, based on the nesting material and other traces, it can be recognized which bird species used the nesting boxes and whether they bred there. The annual cleaning and recording is not only practical nature conservation work but also provides the Verein NUR with important insights into the local birdlife.
