This striking creation of music, dance, and Schubert's letters is dedicated to beauty.
Franz Schubert (1797-1828): String Quartet No. 14 "Death and the Maiden" Enzio Bosso (1971-2020): String Quartet No. 5 "Music for a Lodger" At the center of this evening is an epochal masterpiece: Schubert's "Death and the Maiden." Death here does not appear as terror, but in the form of a woman. She embraces what Schubert, what we all cannot repel – and thus the music with the dance becomes a bitter-tender approach to an end that finds reconciliation in art. The fifth string quartet of the Italian music star Ezio Bosso, who died at only 49 years old; conveys to the utmost the message to understand the beauty of life as a source of strength.
What makes this evening "not of this world" is the connection of this music with the most personal expression in dance. Giulia Tonelli, raised in Pisa, was the prima ballerina of the Zurich Ballet and danced at the Royal Ballet as well as at Teatro alla Scala; she became known to a wide audience through the film "Becoming Giulia" (2022). Marc Jubete Bascompte has been a soloist at Hamburg Ballet since 2016 and created works as a choreographer, among others, for the Federal Youth Ballet. Michele Pastorini, born in Sicily, was the first soloist at the Croatian National Theatre Rijeka and combines powerful physicality, theatricality, and a human-centered approach in his choreography. The musical foundation is laid by a string quartet formation of CHAARTS – the internationally successful Swiss ensemble founded in 2010 at Künstlerhaus Boswil.
