Description
This architectural journey of discovery takes you through contemporary Riehen. To mark the opening of Peter Zumthor’s museum expansion, the tour also highlights other recent buildings. For in the shadow of Renzo Piano’s world-famous Fondation Beyeler, Riehen has increasingly developed into a small architectural hub in recent years.
Whether award-winning new buildings, innovative renovations, or interesting residential structures: The tour showcases a selection of architecturally significant buildings from the past 30 years or so. The tour consists of exterior viewings and offers insights into the buildings’ development history, urban context, architectural approach, construction methods, and materials. This allows participants to discover both well-known structures and hidden gems from a new perspective and gain deeper insights into the local building culture. Visitors are asked to bring their own bicycles and dress appropriately for the weather. Image: Hirtenweg Housing Development, Riehen. Photo: Daisuke Hirabayashi, Architecture: Studio Gugger
