NEVER SOL Producer, singer, and sound artist Never Sol released her third studio album Rest Your Wound On Mine in April. The album follows the EP Tell The Sea I’m Coming Back and the single LEON, and is the result of a gradual release of forms and structures that the artist has been working with in recent years. Improvisation during live performances on modular synthesizers played a crucial role in the shift towards a more abstract, less song-oriented form. This allowed for deeper work with detail and sound shape. "I eventually returned to a song form because it feels natural to me. This time, however, it comes from a process where I gradually deconstructed the songs into looser abstraction and then reconstructed them. Improvisation allowed me to respond to time, space, and the audience. I think the material shaped itself into a form that holds up," says Never Sol. The album was primarily created on the Prophet 8 synthesizer, modular systems combined with vocal effects. Heavily processed vocals with a significant degree of noise and distortion accompany the gradually intensifying synthesizer layers, which enter the individual tracks with an intensity transformed into the monumental sound of the album. The key single Accord, recorded during a residency at Grey Nivas in New York and featuring vocals from American musician Monika Khot (Nordra), connects the rawness of sound with natural processes. The opening tracks PATTI and Swamp, created during an organ residency at Atrium Žižkov, work with gradual build-up to the brink of collapse. The same is preserved in With All, recorded completely live. The more ambient IHYD was created at the Vintage Synthesizer Museum in Los Angeles, where the artist worked with old synthesizers. The studio tracks Rose Garden and Naked Waters, on the other hand, stand out with significant tonal shifts and dense soundscapes. PETR BURSA Petr Bursa is an emerging name in the Prague experimental electronic scene. His debut EP 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵'𝘴 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘰 lures listeners into a ghostly, fog-covered landscape, drawing us in with siren-like charm, enticing us from the sound darkness, which brings momentary confusion, only to be swept away in waves of tenderness and wonder. It offers a chilling, melodic comfort that the trials of self-discovery are shared, and that although the planes of waves seem endless, we never sail them alone.
