In attendance: Nadya (Ukraine), Vladimir (Moldova) & Natalia (Kazakhstan) Yana Isaenko, Germany 2024, 25’, original Ukrainian-Russian version with German subtitles. The discussion following the film will be interpreted in German Sign Language. ADMISSION FREE. Coming out as a queer person can be a life-changing moment. And sometimes, the reactions to this within one’s family of origin can lead to major conflicts. NOT ALONE is a documentary about parents of queer children from Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. In July 2024, they come together in Berlin, cook borscht, design their own posters and take part in Pride. They speak openly about how they reacted to their children coming out and how they have come to terms with this new and difficult reality. In doing so, they also talk about the prejudices they once held and how they have overcome them. A discussion following the screening with some of the protagonists and including audience participation is in cooperation with Plus Voice (international network of parents and allies supporting LGBTQIA+ people) and Quarteera e. V. (association for Russian-speaking LGBTQIA+ in Germany and their friends). The discussion will be held in Russian and German with simultaneous interpretation provided. Contributions in English from the audience may be translated.
