Description

The renowned hard rock band Nazareth returns to the Czech Republic. They will perform on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at KC Aldis Hradec Králové and on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at the House of Culture Liberec. Nazareth is a Scottish rock band known for many rock hits as well as their great cover of the ballad Love Hurts from the mid-70s. The band was formed in Dunfermline from the remnants of a semi-professional local band called The Shadettes (originally Mark V and The Red Hawks) by singer Dan McCafferty, guitarist Manny Charlton, bassist Pete Agnew, and drummer Darrell Sweet. They took their name from the song The Weight by The Band. In 1970, the band moved to London, where they released their first self-titled album in 1971. After gaining attention with the album Exercises in 1972, Nazareth released another album, Razamanaz, in early 1973. Songs like Broken Down Angel and Bad Bad Boy reached the UK Top 10 chart. This was followed by the album Loud N Proud at the end of 1973, which included the hit This Flight Tonight, originally by Joni Mitchell. In 1974, they released the album Rampant, which was equally successful, even though it did not contain any singles. Another song (not appearing on any album), again a cover version, this time of My White Bicycle, reached the UK Top 20 in early 1975. The album Hair of the Dog was released in 1975. The title track (popularly, though incorrectly known as 'Now You're Messing With a Son of a Bitch') became a staple of 70s rock radio. The American release of the album includes the song Love Hurts, originally by The Everly Brothers and also recorded by Roy Orbison. This song was released as a single in the UK and the USA. It was certified platinum in the USA. It is the only song by Nazareth to reach the American Top Ten. In the summer of 2013, Dan McCafferty announced that he was leaving the band for health reasons. In February 2014, he was replaced by Linton Osborne, but in December 2014, the band was forced to cancel several concerts and postpone their UK tour due to Osborne's illness. In January, Osborne announced his departure from Nazareth on his Facebook, and a month later, the band, currently consisting of co-founder Pete Agnew (bass), his son Lee Agnew (drums), and Jimmy Murrison (guitar, who has been with the band since 1994), announced a new singer, Carl Sentance, on their website. Sentance was with the band until the end of 2025, after which the frontman position was filled by Gianni Pontille.
