Description

Around the Schönthal Monastery in Langenbruck, history, art, agriculture, and nature come together in a special way. The monastery is part of a biodynamic Demeter farm of about 100 hectares, where biodiversity and species richness have been actively promoted for years. On October 17, we need energetic support: during the Nature Connects activity, we will properly maintain the valuable dry meadows and pastures and contribute to preserving this diverse habitat in the long term. Anyone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to make a tangible contribution to nature is warmly invited to help. Key details about the Nature activity: Activity leader: Urs Handschin, WWF Central Switzerland

Since 2001, an international sculpture park has been established around the historic monastery complex, carefully integrating artworks into the open, hilly landscape. The adjacent Hofgut is also part of this vibrant overall work: the approximately 100-hectare biodynamically managed Demeter farm has been focused on biodiversity, landscape aesthetics, and natural use since 2015. Measures include promoting herb-rich margins, old grass strips, open forest sites, dry stone walls, and other valuable structures. This creates a place where agriculture, nature conservation, and landscape management merge, ensuring long-term preservation of diverse habitats. "Nature Connects" is a participatory project through which WWF promotes biodiversity in our cultural landscape. For nature, agriculture, and society: farmers work hand in hand with WWF volunteers: planting hedges and orchards, maintaining meadows and pastures, installing nesting boxes, and combating neophytes. This activity offers an opportunity to actively contribute to the protection and care of nature, learn new things, and make a valuable contribution together with others.
