Description
Jerusalem during the time of the Crusades: The Jewish merchant Nathan returns from a business trip and learns that his foster daughter Recha was rescued from a burning house by a Christian Templar knight. The Templar knight, in turn, lives by the grace of the Muslim ruler Sultan Saladin. When Saladin asks Nathan to lead him to the "true religion" through his wisdom, a game of faith, tolerance, and human responsibility begins. Nathan responds with the famous parable of the rings. But Saladin is not really convinced by Nathan's reason and his religious tolerance. But why not use Nathan's humanity to accept his financial support in the interest of good business, especially since Saladin is in financial trouble. Lessing's Enlightenment drama from 1779 shows how relevant the themes still are today. A play introduction takes place at 6:45 p.m. With: Katharina von Bock, Michael von Burg, Fritz Fenne, Axel Julius Fündeling, Mia Lüscher, PitArne Pietz, Miriam Wagner
