The Basel artist Marquard Wocher created the first panorama of Switzerland in 1814. Fascinated by the Bernese Oberland, he designed a 38-metre-long circular painting of the small town of Thun and its surroundings, with views extending as far as the Bernese Oberland Alps. Rich in detail, this picture offers a glimpse into everyday life in Thun 200 years ago and, with its countless stories, becomes a hidden object for young and old alike. Today, the panorama is the oldest circular picture in the world and is a deposit of the Gottfried Keller Foundation.
