Description
From 1524 to 1526, large areas of the German-speaking region experienced significant upheavals, largely originating from rural communities. Nothing less than the right to self-determination of the poorest was at stake. We reconstruct the folk songs of the common people using instruments like the Hackbrett and Strohfiedel (a predecessor of the modern xylophone), which have been passed down to us from descriptions in the 16th century. The music of this period reflects the hardship-filled life of the peasantry, who had to pay high levies to lords and monasteries. Among the nobility and bourgeoisie, Italian fantasies and French chansons were again 'en vogue'. The ideas of the Reformation triggered centuries-long conflicts and negotiations over religious beliefs. Amidst all this, mercenaries, fleeing poverty in their villages, march through the countryside with pipes and drums. Ensemble astrophil & stella: Charlotte Nachtsheim, soprano • Guilherme Barroso, Renaissance lute • Philipp Lamprecht, historical percussion, Strohfiedel, Hackbrett, baritone • Johanna Bartz, Renaissance transverse flutes, bone flute, and conductor. Tickets €39,– / 34,– / 28,– / 22,– (U30: €10,–) Approx. 65 minutes without intermission
