Thanks to "stay mobile & active," you are well informed and safe on foot and using public transport. In half a day, you will receive tips from public transport and police experts. There is also plenty of time reserved for practical exercises at the ticket machine. Mobility changes with age. Therefore, in Altdorf, older people practice how to maintain their mobility even in old age. VCS Uri explains: "Even those who are no longer very young can preserve their independence, especially in our country with its excellent train and bus services." The course covers, among other things: Employees of Auto AG Uri provide information about ticket options and which tickets can be purchased at the train station counter, at Auto AG, or on the bus. It is important to prepare well before a trip.
After the theory part, it goes out onto the street. In three groups, participants are instructed by experts with practical examples. For example, on a bus from Auto AG at Lehnplatz, it is demonstrated that nowadays it is no problem to use public transport with a wheelchair or walker.
The Uri cantonal police provide useful safety tips. They showed how to best signal to drivers by eye contact when crossing the street that you want to cross. "Only start walking when you are sure you have the right of way, and if in doubt, wait until the car stops." Especially at night, bright or reflective clothing is advantageous. Participants are also given safety rules for withdrawing cash at ATMs.
An SBB employee explains on site how to operate a ticket machine correctly. Since input is often under time pressure, he advises always allowing enough time. It is also often not known that bus and train tickets are mutually recognized by both the railway and Auto AG.
