Atlanta, Georgia, 1948. The 72-year-old proud former teacher Miss Daisy stubbornly refuses to be driven by anyone after a minor car accident. Her son Boolie cautiously buys her a new car and simultaneously hires the 60-year-old Hoke Coleburn as a chauffeur. Hoke, calm and wise, meets Miss Daisy with perseverance and dignity, not deterred by her sharp remarks and initial resistance. Step by step, a relationship full of respect, humor, and humanity develops between the Jewish Southern lady and the African American chauffeur.
