New York, 1971: Maria Callas gives her first and only masterclass. In front of the musical elite, the feared "Divina" works with selected students and reveals her uncompromising standards – dearly paid with the loss of her own voice. Terrence McNally's "Masterclass" is a classic of biographical theater. Arias from La Sonnambula, Macbeth, and Tosca serve as a backdrop for memories of triumphs and humiliations, the discrepancy between stage icon and vulnerable private person. Since its premiere in 1996, the play has been an indispensable part of theater repertoires. The production with Andrea Eckert as the strict, vulnerable Maria Callas holds a special status: around 170,000 visitors saw it at the Vienna Volkstheater, and Eckert received numerous awards. For Callas's 100th birthday, this "Masterclass" returned in 2023 – with stops in Vienna, South Tyrol, and the 200th performance at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie. A journey through the sound worlds of the harp In our coffee house concert series, musicians from the region are in the spotlight. The harp shows many facets in this coffee house concert. Marika Cecilia Kopp-Riedl takes the audience on a journey through different times and sound worlds: from Baroque elegance by Georg Friedrich Händel through impressionistic colors by Claude Debussy to opera melodies by Gioachino Rossini and Richard Wagner arranged for solo harp. The finale features music by American composer Pearl Chertok, whose miniatures tell a whole day – from an afternoon walk through nocturnal dance rhythms to the morning after. A concert that lets the harp be experienced as a storyteller between opera stage, salon, and modern sound fantasy. Production:
