Description
A Zurich trumpeter meets a Berlin rhythm section and an award-winning Hamburg saxophonist – together Matthias Spillmann, Andreas Lang (double bass), Moritz Baumgärtner (drums), and special guest Anna-Lena Schnabel on alto saxophone form one of the most exciting ensembles of the European scene. By consciously reducing to a lineup without harmony instruments like piano or guitar, the quartet reveals the DNA of jazz, where melody and rhythm interact in their purest form. The musical focus is on personal expression and the joyful exploration of new territories. Whether classics by Monk, Mingus, or Ellington – with courage to take risks and a nearly magical, organic communication, the band reinterprets the legacy of jazz greats anew. Spillmann's clear, lyrical tone and the energetic responsiveness of his fellow musicians merge with the distinctive, inventive playing of Anna-Lena Schnabel into a unit often celebrated by critics as a "Tour de Force." Their music promises atmospheric density, spontaneous improvisation, and pure joy of playing. Venue: Jazz-Club Villingen Lineup
