Language: English Subtitles: German Queer icon Greta Garbo as King/Queen Christina of Sweden, interpretable as trans*, non-binary, lesbian, or bisexual. The screenplay is by Salka Viertel, Greta Garbo’s lover at the time, who was blacklisted in Hollywood during the McCarthy political witch-hunts of the 1950s. Despite Hollywood conventions, the film went on to become a classic of queer cinema. The famous kissing scene between Christina and her lady-in-waiting Ebba would have fallen victim to film censorship just one year later. Garbo’s words as Christina are legendary: “I shall not die an old maid! I shall die a bachelor.” Freshly brewed coffee and a snack will be served from 11:30 am.
