LECTURE BY MARTIN PAVLÍČEK Early Baroque painter, born in Milan. Founder of radical Baroque painting, master of tenebrism. A man haunted by demons of anger and restlessness, a fugitive murderer. Rome, Naples, Sicily, Malta. A desire for peace and tranquility interspersed with fits of violence and endless brawls. Pardoned, he dies abandoned from malaria on his return to Rome. A favorite of a group of Roman cardinals and aristocrats who aided the rise of Baroque. Creator of both tender and cruel images of saints, as well as portraits of homosexual youths. One of the first cursed artists.
