Description

Martha High is an internationally celebrated entertainer, author, and vocal coach. She was discovered in the mid-1960s at the age of 18 by the 'Godfather of Soul', James Brown, when she sang with the group The Four Jewels at the world-famous Apollo Theater in New York. After Mr. Brown invited her to join the James Brown Revue, the group was renamed The Jewels. Later, Mr. Brown gave her the stage name Martha High and ultimately crowned her the 'Goddess of Soul'. She worked with Mr. Brown for 32 years. Throughout her career, she shared the stage with icons like Michael Jackson, B. B. King, Bo Diddley, Fred Wesley, and Maceo Parker, and also appeared in the film The Blues Brothers. Her powerful voice has resonated in renowned venues such as the Olympia in Paris, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, and the Hollywood Bowl, as well as at major jazz festivals in Montreux, Pori, Nice, and Porretta. Additionally, she has appeared on well-known TV shows like those of Johnny Carson, David Letterman, and Arsenio Hall. Martha High has nearly six decades of experience in the spotlight, thrilling audiences around the globe. Even today, she continues to perform for her fans in the USA, South America, Europe, and Japan.
