Description

Theatre based on the novella by Thomas Mann Italy in the 1920s, family vacation. But instead of relaxation, a family experiences discrimination. A magician is supposed to provide distraction – Cipolla. Thomas Mann's novella shows how easily a society can be seduced. Holidays! Italy! Relaxation! But everywhere, the narrator and his family encounter nationalism and discrimination. But for the sake of the children, the holiday continues. A visit to the magician Cipolla is meant to bring the desired distraction. Cipolla turns out to be a brilliant show hypnotist and conjures a helpless audience. With fascination and horror, the family watches as the show develops. Until the charged atmosphere erupts in a fatal horror. Thomas Mann's novella from 1929 is a psychogram of a society seduced by fascism, abandoning responsibility, reason, and morality. In a version for the Badische Landesbühne by Ulrich Cyran, introduction at 7 p.m.
