Lucie Vítková: Sea Section

Description

Sea Section is a band with a wide range, encompassing genres such as rock, progressive rock, avant-garde pop, and opera. The founding member is Czech composer and musician Lucie Vítková (songwriter, vocals, and piano), who also partially operates in Brooklyn, where she met other members of the group, guitarist Teerapat Parnmongkol, bassist Mae May, and drummer Nick Neuberg. Lucie is a prominent figure in the Czech and New York experimental scene, and this new project showcases her further musical direction. The name Sea Section has three meanings reflected in Lucie's songs: "sea" as the openness of the ocean, "c section" (cesarean section) as the urgency of surgery, and section C as a formal part of the songs. The band Sea Section released their first single, The Struggle to Play the Words, in September 2022 (Bandcamp), which contains a story about layers of language (Czech, Thai, and English), immigration issues, and the reality of a society where every person must express themselves in words to exist. Their latest single Ten Den is in Czech and features collaboration with Czech poet, singer-songwriter, and rapper Jakub Čermák (Cermaque). Vítková will perform solo as part of her autumn tour.
