Description

The numerous archaeological finds from the Vidy site depict a lively picture of a Gallic-Roman small town on Lake Lemannus. Just as the modern Swiss experienced, the Helvetii of that time went through a period of profound change. In 15 BC, they were incorporated into the Roman Empire and became part of a new world centered around the Mediterranean. Life soon changed: the use of Latin and writing spread, new technologies and previously unknown goods disturbed everyday life. People, ideas, and images traveled. New leisure activities like baths and theaters were adopted, Roman cuisine became popular, and new gods were worshipped. The primitive Gallic culture did not disappear; instead, it flourished alongside Roman culture, forming the Gallic-Roman civilization. Integration, new technologies, globalization, cultural mixing... antiquity remains relevant today!
