In AVANT LA NUIT / L’OISEAU DE FEU, Edouard Hue focuses on parenthood. In the tension between preserving protective family intimacy and letting children go in an often overwhelming society, the boundaries between reality and virtuality blur. The reinterpretation of L’OISEAU DE FEU demonstrates how effectively a classical work can be combined with a modern choreographic style. In Hue's version, tradition meets contemporary movement language. This reveals that older and younger generations do not contradict each other but enrich and complement one another.
Through the division of the piece into two parts – a prelude titled AVANT LA NUIT and an adaptation of Igor Stravinsky's work – Edouard Hue creates a dialogue between a tangible reality and a magical universe. The evening takes place in a fantasy world that inspires childlike imagination and makes reality intangible. The parental figures in the piece attempt to resist and maintain their connection to reality. Resistance against a world confused by deceptive appearances.
Edouard Hue received the Swiss Dance Prize in 2019. In 2014, he founded the Beaver Dam Company. At the Kurtheater, Hue's choreography DIVE celebrated its acclaimed premiere for the 2024 season opening.
