Description

Graindelavoix from Belgium has been renewing early music for years and presents an evening of songs with music from the 14th and 15th centuries at Kulturkirche Paulus. The period was marked by numerous military conflicts across Europe, which also left their traces in the musical compositions of the time. The title is borrowed from a poem by the English poet Wilfred Owen about the horrors of the First World War, which was considered the first war of modern times for various reasons. The recontextualization of this over 500-year-old music by Graindelavoix can also be understood as a commentary on the current wartime of postmodern times. After the concert, there will be an artist talk between Björn Schmelzer, the ensemble leader, and Ute Hotel, a media and film scholar based in Basel.
