Against hunger, thirst, and the ravages of tropical cyclones, the strength of life, solidarity, and technical innovation thwarted the dehumanization of the slave system. L'île de Sable shows that in the face of silence in historical narratives, archaeology gives a voice back to the victims of the slave trade.
