Description

Under the title "Lichtpunkte," a series of his black-and-white watercolors are on display, in large and small formats: starry sky in the splendor of clear winter nights. The images convey to viewers the vastness and mysteriousness of the universe. Helmut Wenczel paints with brush and black watercolor precisely, leaving no areas in blur. The white of the paper conveys brightness in the darkness of the black color, which he applies layer by layer with a fine brush. "The reflection of light on the paper outshines the space outside the picture. This energy is meant to touch the viewer," says the artist. He often works on a single piece for months. Additionally, he exhibits a series of photographs. They make a bright circle glow in colors, as if paying homage to a particularly fascinating star. Helmut Wenczel, living in Eschikofen, has previously exhibited at the Kunstmuseum Thurgau. His works have also been displayed at the Burgdorf Museum Franz Gertsch, the Glarner Kunsthaus, the Kreuzlingen Kunstraum, the Galerie Bleisch, and Widmer+Theodoridis. Now, the art initiator Rita Conrad presents him in her third exhibition at the Weinfelder CITYHAUS. Helmut Wenczel grew up in Domat/Ems GR. Visits to the Bündner Kunstmuseum inspired him to pursue a design-oriented path. He completed the pre-course at the current School of Design in St. Gallen at a young age.
