In the summer of 1939, Albert Meyer, 39 years old, married, father of two daughters, entrepreneur in the second generation – and grandfather of the author, disappeared. Albert got on his bicycle and set off. He rode away from the looming war, his worries, and his world-weariness. Simply leaving, leaving behind family and work. He rode over 700 kilometers through Switzerland, crossed several Alpine passes with his three-speed bike, and dealt with his role in an uncertain time. Until he found peace, clarity, and confidence. Then he returned.
