Exactly ten years ago, on November 7, 2016, Leonard Cohen bid farewell, two weeks after the release of his final album where he sang: "I’m ready, my Lord (Je suis prêt, mon Seigneur)..."
Initially a poet and novelist overlooked by success, the Canadian turned to music late, in the bohemian New York of Greenwich Village and the Chelsea Hotel. In 1967, he released his first record, with a handful of tracks that entered the collective consciousness like Suzanne, So Long, Marianne, or Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye. The story is underway...
In this context, the BCU organizes a double tribute to Leonard Cohen. First in the form of a conversation between three specialists, three lovers, one might say: Pascal Bouaziz, singer of Mendelson, who wrote a very personal book about the singer in 2022; Christophe Lebold, who dedicated his doctoral thesis to Leonard Cohen (and Bob Dylan) and who notably interviewed the singer for fourteen days in Los Angeles; and Stéphane Cusin, the Fribourgeois of the moment, who embarked on a photographic road trip following Leonard Cohen's footsteps in Montreal, after attending – like a stowaway of Stravinsky – the soundcheck of the singer during his appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2013.
In the second part of the evening, Pascal Bouaziz will perform Leonard Cohen songs at the Arsen’Alt, with some guests.
