LEILA belongs to a generation of artists who can no longer be categorized and do not want to be. Within a very short time, the Bernese musician has gained a fanbase beyond national borders that did not develop through traditional means. An initial song, released without much strategy, unexpectedly gains reach. Shortly after, support tours, festival shows, an audience that knows the lyrics before they are officially released. It is a development that seems less planned than simply consistent. With the signing to Grönland Records, the label of Herbert Grönemeyer, the framework shifts once again – away from a local momentum towards a clear international perspective. LEILA's music is characterized by movement. Between her birthplace Bern, her origin Sarajevo, and her adopted home New York, a sound emerges that consciously resists clear labels. It can best be described as pop – but one that does not lose its edges. Indie meets raw, sometimes restless energy, influences from the UK underground stand alongside moments that open up surprisingly directly. LEILA writes in English, singing about relationships, identity, queerness, and growing up between cultures. Less about clear answers, more about states: insecurities, shifts, this feeling of finding oneself and losing oneself at the same time. With the first single “Small Town Big Mouth” on April 17, 2026, and her debut album “20 SOMETHING IS A F*CKING STRANGE PLACE” (release: September 18, 2026), this development is becoming more concentrated.
