Description

An accordion can sound like folk music. It can sound like jazz. With Lea Gasser, it can actually sound like anything possible. In her solo project, the accordionist and composer breaks the instrument out of its familiar contexts and sends it on a journey between neoclassicism, jazz, improvisation, and electronics. Breath, keys, noises, and electronic effects become an extended instrumentarium. Small movements can create large soundscapes, a melody can shimmer, silence can build tension. Gasser's music is often poetic and focused, but by no means fragile. It can grow, push, and surprise. An evening solo that shows how big a single instrument can become when given enough space.
