The 'Hauspostille' addresses the reader's feelings and understanding. The reading is recommended in times of raw natural forces and in hours of wealth, consciousness of the flesh, and arrogance. It is to be sung under the threat of harsh dissonances. Its motto: 'In gratitude for the sun shining upon it, things cast shadows.' This is stated in the instructions for use of 'Bertolt Brecht's Hauspostille,' written by the playwright between 1916 and 1925, and supplemented with additional works throughout his life. The title Hauspostille is a parodic allusion to contemporary pious sermon collections. Lars Eidinger: 'Change the world, it needs it,' is the phrase in Bertolt Brecht's 'The Measure,' followed by 'Who are you?'. There seems to be a direct connection between the question of our identity and the possibility of changing the world. If we step out of the most narcissistic moment, recognize ourselves in the reflection, and reveal ourselves, we can overcome alienation from ourselves and others and emerge as changed beings.' Hans Jörn Brandenburg, who has worked with Frank Castorf and George Tabori among others, took on the musical direction of all German-language premieres of Robert Wilson and collaborated with Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Herbert Grönemeyer, and CocoRosie in this context.
