When he was young, Nicolas Barry thought that love declarations from the classical repertoire concerned him. The heterosexuality of the characters did not seem to be an obstacle to identifying with the great romantic outbursts of Romeo and Juliet, Phaedra, or Tristan and Iseult. However, this tradition excluded queer loves from its representations. The love monologue in which Louis Hee confesses his love to John adopts the codes of an excessive and overflowing lyricism to serve a new queer dramaturgy. With it, the author includes himself in a tradition that kept him apart. A speech that is nothing tragic, that does not foresee any death, that does not account for any thwarted desire, this declaration of love from one man to another is nothing but... a declaration of love from one man to another. Based in Lyon since 2019, the company Ensemble Facture, brought together by Nicolas Barry, creates a queer, feminist, and ecological dance-theatre blending writing, music, and visual arts. After the creations Grand Crié (2022), Le rêve de Voler (2023), and La Demande d’Asile (2025), the team is currently preparing the triptych La Paix dans le monde, scheduled for 2027, of which the declaration of love constitutes the first tableau. The performance on February 13 takes place as part of L’Autre Saint-Valentin.
